Johnson Named as Schreiner's Head
Athletic Trainer |
Jessica Johnson has agreed to become
Schreiner's new Head Athletic
Trainer, and will begin in that
capacity this summer. Johnson
will replace Lisa Chinn, who will be
leaving this summer after serving as
SU's Head Athletic Trainer for the
past three years. Chinn will
be headed to Charlottesville, VA to
pursue her PhD at the University of
Virginia.
Johnson graduated in May with a
Masters of Science degree in
Kinesiology from James Madison
University (VA). While at JMU,
she was the certified athletic
trainer for the Softball team and
assisted with Women's Soccer.
She also handled all injury records,
insurance and pre-season paperwork
for the department and was a
Clinical Instructor in the Athletic
Training Education Program at JMU.
This will not be Johnson's first
experience with the NCAA Division
III level or with the American
Southwest Conference. Johnson
did her undergraduate work (B.S. -
Athletic Training) at fellow
ASC-member Texas Lutheran and
graduated Summa Cum Laude from TLU
in 2006. While at TLU,
she worked with the Football,
Women's Basketball and Men's Soccer
programs.
One of Johnson's first
responsibilities will be hiring the
school's first Assistant Athletic
Trainer. That position will
begin this August.
Johnson grew up in the Hill Country
and is a graduate of Bandera High
School where she starred for the
softball team. Her family
still resides in the south central
Texas area. |

Dowdee
to Fill SU's New Assistant Athletic
Trainer Post |
Schreiner University Athletics
announced that Janel Dowdee will be
joining the staff in early August as
the school's first Assistant
Athletic Trainer. This is a
new full time position at the
University and was created because
of the school's significant growth
in Athletics. Over the past
three years, the Mountaineers have
added three sports teams (Men's and
Women's Cross Country and Women's
Golf) and overall athletics
participation has grown from just
more than 125 student-athletes in
2005 to the nearly 220 who are
expected to participate this fall.
Dowdee comes to Kerrville from Los
Angeles, California. She is
currently an assistant athletic
trainer for the Los Angeles Galaxy
of Major League Soccer (MLS).
The Galaxy have been in the news
over the past 12 months for the
highly publicized signing of
international soccer star David
Beckham.
Prior to working for the Galaxy,
Dowdee was the head athletic trainer
for Ganesha High School in Pomona,
CA. She was also an athletic
trainer at Sports Pros in Claremont,
CA and was also the head athletic
trainer for Pomona High School.
Dowdee earned her Masters degree
(Kinesiology/Sports Psychology) from
Cal State-Fullerton and is a
graduate of Cal Poly-Pomona
(Kinesiology/Athletic Training).
She has already earned her NATABOC
national certification and is
eligible for Texas State licensure.
