Ozarks Rolls to 10-1 Win in SU's Home Opener
Junior Todd Koch didn't give up an earned run in
8-2/3 innings of work and received plenty of
offensive support as Ozarks defeated Schreiner
10-1 in SU's home opener. The Eagles (5-1)
jumped ahead with three runs in the first and
added three more in the third inning and that
was more than enough runs for Koch.
Koch held SU (1-5) to only two hits through
eight innings. The Mountaineers scratched
together two hits and a UO error to plate their
only run in the ninth inning and chase Koch.
Relief pitcher John Phillips needed just one
pitch to end the game.
Junior Oliver Stogsdill had half of SU's hits.
Sophomore Joe Andrew Pena had the Mountaineers
lone RBI. UO's Bruce Cameron was the big
bat for the visitors, collecting three hits in
four at-bats, driving in 4 runs and scoring two
himself. He hit a home run and added a
double in his three hits. Senior relief
pitcher Bernard Pena came in and gave SU a
chance to mount a comeback by allowing only two
earned runs in six innings of work, but the
offense couldn't get untracked. Schreiner
starter Chris Armijo (0-2) was charged with the
loss.
