UT-Tyler Sweeps SU as Offensive Struggles
Continue
UT-Tyler (11-1) swept a weekend series with
Schreiner which included a doubleheader of
shutouts against the visiting Mountaineers.
Schreiner (1-11) scored three runs in the series
and had a total of 10 hits in the three games as
the SU offense continues to stall.
In Friday's game, UT-Tyler raced out to a 6-0
lead over the first five innings.
Sophomore Joe Andrew Pena shut down the Patriots
over the next 3-1/3 innings and Schreiner scored
three runs in the seventh to make things
interesting, but couldn't get any closer.
Chris Armijo (0-3) took the loss. Junior
Oliver Stogsdill was two-for-three which
included a three-run homer and accounted for all
of SU's runs.
In the first game of the doubleheader on
Saturday, UT-Tyler had a 1-0 lead heading into
the bottom of the fourth but erupted for 7 runs
off starter sophomore Colton Hermes (0-3) in the
fifth and added two more in the sixth off
sophomore Eric Crenwelge. Freshman Michael
Nicholson worked two shutout innings of relief
for the Mountaineers.
In the finale, UT-Tyler again held only a scant
1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth.
They scratched out two runs in the inning which
was more than enough to gain the win.
Senior Kevin Jones pitched six innings and
allowed three earned runs but still took the
loss (1-2).
In addition to
Stogsdill, senior Matt Langston and Crenwelge
each had two hits in the series. |
