Wabash Races to Big Lead in 13-5 Win
Visiting Wabash (IN) scored 5-runs in both the
third and fourth innings to build up a big lead
in a 13-5 victory. Wabash started the game
with two runs in the first inning off SU
starting senior Bernard Pena (0-1), but the real
damage started two innings later. Wabash
got to Pena early and continued to hit freshman
Michael Nicholson who came in in relief later in
the inning. The visitors continued their
onslaught in the fourth and before it was over,
held a commanding 12-1 lead.
Schreiner had its chances to get on the
scoreboard in the early innings but could only
manage one run during the stretch. The
Mountaineers did rally late getting two runs
each in the seventh and ninth innings to close
the gap.
Freshmen Oscar Ibieta and Michael Houser,
sophomore Eric Crenwelge and junior Ray Martinez
each had two hits to pace SU. Ibieta and
Martinez each had two RBI. Sophomore
reliever Eric Wehmeyer was effective out of the
pen, pitching 4-2/3 innings of relief and only
allowing one run. |
