Four-Run Seventh Carries SU to 6-5 Win at Sul
Ross
Schreiner Baseball rallied with a four-run
seventh inning to score a 6-5 come-from-behind
win at Sul Ross State and even their ASC record
at 2-2. SRS touched SU starter Colton
Hermes (2-3) for two runs in the first inning
but the Mountaineers answered back with single
run innings in both the second and third to even
the score. The Lobos (0-4 in ASC) got two
more on the board in the fourth and added
another in the fifth but it wasn't enough to
hold off the Schreiner comeback.
SU's big inning started with a double by junior
Johnny Huizar. One out later, junior Ray
Martinez drove him home with a double of his own
to make it 5-3. Sophomore Eric Crenwelge
got on on an infield single and senior Matt
Langston made it 5-4 with a fielder's choice and
RBI. Freshman Oscar Ibieta doubled in a
run to tie the game and later scored the
tie-breaking and eventual game winning run on a
wild pitch.
Hermes pitched 8-1/3 innings, allowing four
earned runs on nine hits. He struck out 8
and walked only one. Freshman Michael
Houser got the final two outs to record his
first collegiate save. |
