Trinity Slips By Mountaineers, 3-2
Trinity University jumped out to a 3-0 lead by
the third inning and held on for a 3-2 win over
Schreiner in San Antonio. Four Schreiner
pitchers combined to limit the Tigers (24-8) to
eight hits but TU's Brian Oates (5-1) was even
more effective. He allowed only two SU
hits in six innings of work. Schreiner
(8-21) was able to score twice against TU
reliever Ryan Poffenroth in the seventh inning.
A pair on one-out singles by sophomore J.D.
Escobar and junior Johnny Huizar started the
rally. Two Trinity errors allowed both
runners to score, making it a one run game.
Schreiner could not get another hit in the final
two innings and only had four hits in the game.
Schreiner's freshman starter Michael Nicholson
took the loss, giving up all three runs (two
were earned) in 2-1/3 innings pitched.
Freshman Brandon Pape was strong in relief,
spreading four hits and not allowing a run in
3-2/3 innings. Junior Chris Armijo and
sophomore Colton Hermes each pitched an inning
of scoreless relief. |
