Mary Hardin-Baylor Outslugs SU, 28-18
With the wind blowing out at Mountaineer Field,
Mary Hardin-Baylor won a battle of the bats,
28-18. Both teams scored in every inning
of the game. UMHB (10-3 in ASC) hit four
home runs and had 26 hits compared to two homers
and 15 hits for Schreiner (5-8 in ASC).
The Crusaders scored 10 runs in the first three
innings and chased SU starting pitcher Chris
Armijo. Even with a 10-4 lead, the verdict
was still in doubt. SU closed to within 3
runs twice in the later innings but neither team
could get stop the opposing offense.
The Mountaineers used seven pitchers to no
avail. Senior Matt Langston pounded two
home runs, drove in three runs and scored three
more to pace Schreiner. Sophomore Joe
Andrew Pena had three hits in six at-bats and
caught the entire 4:30 hour game.
