Mountaineers Survive Late TLU Push, Win 12-8
Chris Armijo pitched six innings and Oliver
Stogsdill had three hits, including a home run,
as SU claimed the first win of the series
against the visiting Bulldogs. Armijo and
the Mountaineers (7-9 in ASC) trailed 3-0 going
into the bottom of the fourth, but before the
inning was complete, SU would score eight times
on seven hits. Stogsdill, a junior,
started the inning with a single and had the
final hit as well, a towering two-run homer,
that made it 8-3.
The Mountaineers weren't through as they added
three more runs in the fifth. The big
knock was a two run single by sophomore Eric
Crenwelge. With the wind blowing out at
Mountaineer Field, no lead is safe and Texas
Lutheran (8-8 in ASC) nearly proved that.
The Bulldogs scored three in the seventh and two
in the ninth but could not complete the rally.
Armijo, a junior, picked up his first win of the
season. Junior Richard Sanchez also had
three hits. The top five hitters in the SU
lineup accounted for 11 of the team's 12 RBI. |
