strong relief appearance this week
Schreiner rallied from a 5-1 deficit and got
strong relief pitching again from junior Eric
Wehmeyer in posting a 12-9 win at windy
Mountaineer Field on Friday afternoon.
SU senior starter Roger Ayala (2-0) did not have
his strongest outing but still got the win.
He gave up five earned runs in the second inning
as Louisiana College (5-6) raced to a 5-1 lead.
The Mountaineers (4-7) answered in the home half
of the third inning to tie the game.
Freshman Eric Bukowski had an RBI single but
then SU took advantage of three LC errors to
score the remaining three runs.
SU scored two more in the fourth when senior
Oliver Stogsdill doubled in two runs.
Louisiana answered with four runs over the next
two innings to again take the lead. It was
SU's turn to answer and they did so with four of
their own to take the final lead, 11-9.
Ayala gave way after six complete innings,
giving up seven earned runs. Wehmeyer
pitched the final three innings, giving up no
runs and scattering three hits as SU tacked on
an insurance run in the eighth to provide the
final score.
Freshman Marcus Myhaver had another strong game
at the plate, going 3-for-4. Senior Ray
Martinez, Stogsdill and Bukowski each had two
hits. Bukowski joined Stogsdill with 2 RBI
each.
The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday
afternoon beginning at Noon.
