Joe Castillo is entering his fifth year as head coach of the Mountaineer baseball team. Joe has a long history with Schreiner and the Mountaineer athletic program. He graduated from SU after playing baseball for the Mountaineers from 1992-1994. 

After graduation, Joe taught and coached Notre Dame Catholic School in Kerrville. From there, he moved to Bandera High School, where he was an assistant coach for baseball, football and basketball.

He returned to his alma mater in 1998 when he was named as assistant baseball coach. As assistant coach, Joe was involved in all phases of the baseball program including recruiting and on-field player training. This will be Castillo’s eighth year of collegiate coaching.

He was named Head Coach for Schreiner University Baseball is 2001. This will be his fifth season at the helm of Mountaineer Baseball.

Joe married former Schreiner student and graduate (class of '92) Janda Lopez, in 1995. Their son, Jacob, was born in September, 2002. Janda is an assistant principal in the Kerrville School District. They reside in Kerrville.
