Barney Named ASC West
Co-Player of the Week
Senior
forward Ronnie Barney
was named ASC West
Division Co-Player of
the Week for the first
week of January.
Barney (San Antonio, TX
/ Southwest HS) scored a
team-high 22 points and
grabbed five rebounds to
help the Mountaineers
upset ASC East Division
leader and two-time
defending ASC champion
Mississippi College,
67-62. Barney also
hit seven free throws
and collected one steal
as Schreiner became just
the second American
Southwest Conference
team to defeat MC over
the past two seasons. He
also chipped in 12
points and a steal in a
loss to Louisiana
College.
Barney currently leads
the Mountaineers (3-3 in
ASC) in scoring (12.3),
rebounds (4.3) and free
throw shooting (89%).
Although he is a post
player normally, he can
also shoot from distance
as evidenced by the fact
that he is also second
on the team in three
point shooting at 47%.
Barney has started all
nine games for
first-year head coach
Drew Miller's surprising
Mountaineers who were
picked dead last in the
(15-team) ASC preseason
rankings but find
themselves tied for
third place in the ASC
West Division.
