McMurry Handles Youthful
Mountaineers
Visiting
McMurry wasted little
time by jumping out to a
15-4 lead and held off
several Schreiner
rallies for a
comfortable 83-67 win.
The Mountaineers' put
virtually an
all-freshmen and
sophomore lineup on the
floor in an attempt to
break a three-game
losing streak to no
avail.
Upperclassmen played
only three minutes for
the injury-plagued SU
team that fell to 4-7 in
ASC play. McMurry
improved to 4-8 but has
now won two of three
games and was coming off
a win over then-#4
ranked Mary
Hardin-Baylor last week.
McMurry rolled to a big
early lead but saw
Schreiner slowly reel
them in. After the
quick start, the
Mountaineers put on a
rally of their own and
eventually tied the game
at 24-all before McMurry
distanced themselves
again and took a 40-31
halftime lead.
McMurry kept pouring in
shots early in the
second half and
eventually opened up a
60-35 lead.
Schreiner would cut that
lead to 10 (71-61) but
could get no closer in
the closing minutes.
