TLU Upends Schreiner
Visiting Texas Lutheran
used a 11-0 late first
half run to build a
comfortable halftime
lead and then used a
10-3 run to start the
second half en route to
an 86-72 win. The
first half run came
after Schreiner had
battled back from a big
early deficit to tie the
score at 30-all with
less than 2-1/2 minutes
remaining before the
break.
In the late first half
run, TLU was the
beneficiary of an
technical foul on the SU
bench. To add to
the problems, TLU's Brad
Howard banked in a shot
from half court at the
buzzer to widen the
Bulldogs' lead to 41-30.
Coming out of the break,
TLU quickly upped the
lead to 51-33 and kept a
large lead until the
final couple minutes.
The Mountaineers cut the
lead to six with just
over two minutes to go
in regulation but
couldn't score again.
Freshman Matt Riley had
13 first half points and
ended the game with 21
points and eight
rebounds.
Sophomore Cory Tellis
had 11 in the first half
and 14 for the game.
He also had 5 assists.
Freshmen Riley Battle
and Robert Blackshear
added 11 each.
Howard had 30 for the
Bulldogs.
