Win

for a shot.
Schreiner took its first
lead of the year in the
opening minute of the
game, but visiting
UT-Tyler rallied and
went on to win 71-57 in
Kerrville. The
Mountaineers (0-3, 0-1
in ASC) scored the
game's first four points
but the Patriots quickly
charged back and put
together a 17-4 run to
open up a 17-8 lead.
SU had trouble scoring
in the first half and
trailed, 33-17, with 20
minutes left.
In the second half, SU
started strong, scoring
7 of the first 9 points
to chip away at the
lead. The closest
Schreiner got was 45-38
with 10:45 remaining.
UTT (2-4, 2-0 in ASC)
bounced back by scoring
the next 8 points to
create a solid cushion.
Schreiner would rally,
getting the lead back
down to 10 points on
several occasions over
the next few minutes but
the Patriots kept
repelling the
Mountaineers. When
freshman Mike Uwaga
scored on a putback with
2:27, the lead was back
to 11. Uwaga was
fouled on the play but
missed the free throw.
SU wouldn't score again
until Chris Buckley hit
a three-pointer with 37
seconds left in the
contest but it only cut
the deficit back to
55-69. Too little,
too late.
Sophomore Riley Battle
and junior Ralph Turner
tied for scoring honors
with 14 points each.
Turner and freshman
Trevor Conner each had 4
rebounds.
Schreiner shot a
season-high 54% from the
field in the second half
and forced 21 turnovers
but had just as many on
offense.
The Mountaineers go on
the road for their next
two games before
returning home next week
for a pair of ASC
contests.
