First Half Deficits
Lead to 0-2 Road Trip
for MBKB
Louisiana and
Mississippi College each
built double-digit first
half leads this past
weekend and earned home
wins as Schreiner
dropped both games while
enduring the team's
longest road trip of the
year.
Against Louisiana
College (2-3, 1-2 in
ASC), Schreiner fell
behind by 12 at the
break, 32-20. The
Mountaineers struggled
shooting the ball,
hitting only 28% from
the field in the first
half. In the
second half, LC was
strong with the ball,
only turning the ball
over 10 times in the
game. That
combined with SU's
1-for-19 shooting from
behind the arc, wouldn't
allow for a complete
comeback - although the
Mountaineers did come
close at one point in
the second half.
Schreiner got the lead
down to one possession
(three points) but just
couldn't even up the
score.
Junior Ralph Turner led
the Mountaineers with 12
points, 8 rebounds and 3
assists. Freshman
Trevor Conner and
sophomore Riley Battle
each added 11 points.
Freshman Mike Uwaga
grabbed 10 rebounds as
Schreiner won the battle
on the boards, 43-33.
At Mississippi College,
SU again fell behind at
the half, this time
45-35. SU shot 41%
from the field to keep
it pretty close.
The Choctaws (3-2, 1-2
in ASC) held SU to only
31% shooting in the
second half and crushed
the Mountaineers, 46-29,
on the glass to keep
Schreiner away from the
win.
Turner and Conner tied
for the scoring lead
with 16 each in the
game. Conner also
had a team-high six
rebounds.
The Mountaineers (0-5,
0-3 in ASC) play two
home games over the next
week while concentrating
on finals. |
