LeTourneau withstood an
early scoring barage
from Schreiner to post a
convincing 89-57 road
win in Kerrville.
Schreiner shook off some
recent struggles at the
beginning of games by
coming out with a 16-8
run off the opening tip.
Sophomore Mitch Lawrence
and junior Ralph Turner
each knocked down
three-pointers and
junior Chris
Jones-Conyers added an
old-fashioned three
point play to spur the
run. From that
point on though, the
more-seasoned Yellow
Jackets (5-1, 4-0 in
ASC) took control with a
38-10 run the rest of
the half.
The visitors led
comfortably 46-26 at the
break.
In the second half, SU
did have one good rally
and cut the lead to 16,
58-42, with 11:45 left
in the game, but again
LeTourneau rebounded and
pushed the lead up from
there.
Turner led the
Mountaineers with 17
points on only eight
shots from the floor.
Freshman Trevor Conner
and sophomore Riley
Battle each added nine
points. LeTourneau
shot a blistering 68%
from the field in the
second half which made
any SU comeback attempt
impossible.
Meanwhile, Schreiner
managed 28% from the
field in the second half
and 34% for the game.
SU was beaten by a 38-17
margin on the glass and
had only 4 steals to the
Jackets' 12.
Schreiner will take on
visiting East Texas
Baptist in Edington Gym
tomorrow afternoon at
