East
Texas Baptist Rebounds
Past SU for Road Win
Photo: Junior
Ralph Turner hits one of
his two first half
three-pointers on Sunday
vs. ETBU.
ETBU doubled up
Schreiner on the boards
and was able to control
the game en route to an
85-64 win in Kerrville.
The Tigers (5-4, 2-3 in
ASC) ran out to a 10-2
lead and built the
margin to 31-18 before
SU rallied. The
Mountaineers were able
to cut the margin down
to 35-30 with just over
five minutes left before
halftime. ETBU's
lead was still just six
at the midpoint of the
game, 46-40.
The second half was all
East Texas Baptist's as
the Tigers outscored SU,
13-2, coming out of the
locker room to take
control of the game.
Schreiner got the lead
down to 15 points with
seven minutes left but
the visitors quickly
answered and cruised
from their to the
finish.
The fact that Schreiner
was only down six at
halftime was surprising
because ETBU held a
commanding 27-10 margin
in rebounding.
What kept the
Mountaineers in the
game, was probably its
best shooting half of
the season. SU
shot 54% from the field
in the first half, led
by junior Ralph Turner's
17 points at the break.
Sophomore Mitch Lawrence
hit all three of his
3-point shots and added
10 first half points.
In the second half, ETBU
shut down the Schreiner
offense and pulled away.
Turner only had one
second half point for 18
total points.
Lawrence ended with 15
points. Turner and
sophomore David Flannery
each had 5 rebounds.
For the game, the Tigers
had 48 rebounds to SU's
24.
Schreiner plays its last
game before Christmas on
Thursday at Texas
