Schreiner Men Defeat
TLU on Conner's Jumper
with :06 Remaining
Freshman Trevor Conner's
jump shot with :06 left
was the difference as
Schreiner earned a road
win at Texas Lutheran,
69-67. The
Mountaineers earned
their first win of the
season but had to hold
off a late TLU rally to
do so. SU led by
17 at halftime and still
maintained that lead
with just over 11
minutes left in
regulation. Then
the Bulldogs made a big
run of their own to tie
the score with seconds
left, setting up
Conner's game-winning
shot.
Schreiner took the lead
6-5 barely two minutes
into the contest and
then started pulling
away. Over the
final 18 minutes, the
Mountaineers (1-7, 1-5
in ASC) outscored TLU,
33-17. The 17
point lead at halftime
(39-22) was the biggest
of the half.
Junior Ralph Turner had
14 points and six
rebounds at the break.
Schreiner shot 50% for
the half and held the
Bulldogs to just 25%
shooting.
In the second half,
Schreiner bumped the
lead up to 18 points on
two occasions, but TLU
(2-6, 2-4 in ASC) was
able to cut the lead to
10 with 14 minutes left.
Schreiner again pushed
the lead back to 17 over
the next three minutes,
but TLU closed the game
on a 27-12 run.
The only time the game
was tied was when Texas
Lutheran's Josh Scott
hit a runner in the lane
with 49 seconds to go.
That's when Conner came
through to give the
Mountaineers the
much-needed win.
Turner scored a
game-high 22 points and
had 9 rebounds and 7
assists. Conner
scored 10 points off the
bench. The
Mountaineers
outrebounded TLU, 37-32,
but committed 27
turnovers to just 16 for
the Bulldogs. For
the game, SU shot 47%
from the field to 39%
for TLU. Schreiner
also hit 37% of its
three point shots.
The Mountaineers are off
until after Christmas.
Schreiner travels to
Prairie View to take on
NCAA Division I Prairie
View A&M on Tuesday,
December 30th at 7:00
pm.
