NCAA Division I Texas
State Runs Away from SU
in Second Half
NCAA Division I Texas
State used a 33-9 run to
start the second half to
pull away from visiting
non-scholarship
Schreiner University for
a 98-57 win.
Schreiner kept the game
close through most of
the first half and
played solid defense to
keep the score within
seven, 23-16, with just
over seven minutes
remaining before
halftime. The lead
was back to only 9 with
4-1/2 minutes before the
break, but the Bobcats
(6-6) but TSU went on a
10-2 run to close the
half and held a 42-25
lead. Schreiner
was only able to make
27% of its shot in the
first half but held
Texas state to 38%.
Where SU was
particularly tough was
on the boards and
smaller Schreiner (1-9)
led 26-23 in that
category through 20
minutes. Sophomore
Riley Battle had 10
first half points and
sophomore Mitch Lawrence
had six rebounds to pace
the Mountaineers.
The second half Texas
State run put the game
out of reach.
Junior Ralph Turner
scored all of his 12
points after
intermission and SU did
shoot better after the
break, but Texas State
shot 52% from the field
and won the rebounding
battle 24-14 in the
second half to fuel the
big win.
Battle, Turner and
junior Chris
Jones-Conyers each
scored 12 points to lead
SU. Jones-Conyers
had 10 rebounds and
Lawrence added 8.
Schreiner had 29
turnovers to only 8 for
the Bobcats. TSU's
Brandon Bush led all
scorers with 18 points.
The Mountaineers return
to ASC action next
Thursday when the team
takes it second and
final long road trip of
the season to
Clarksville, AR to visit
University of the
Ozarks.
