Mountaineers Falter
in Second Half at Ozarks
Schreiner built up an 11
point lead at halftime
but Ozarks rallied in
the second half to edge
the Mountaineers, 66-63,
in Clarksville, AR.
SU (1-6 in ASC) got busy
early and built an 11-3
lead five minutes into
the game. Led by
sophomore David Flannery
and junior Chris
Jones-Conyers, the lead
grew to 10 points, 17-7,
before Ozarks answered
back. Still the
Mountaineers continued
to shoot well and built
the lead back to as high
as 13 (40-27) moments
before halftime.
Ozarks got the final
score of the half to
make the halftime lead
40-29 in favor of the
visitors.
Schreiner outshot Ozarks
(4-3 in ASC) 57%-40%.
Jones-Conyers had 13
points and Flannery 10
at the midpoint.
In the second half, SU
went cold and couldn't
score for the first five
minutes while Ozarks
scored 7 straight
points. The
Mountaineers built the
lead back to 8 with less
than 10 minutes left,
but Ozarks went on a 9-0
run sparked mainly by
free throw shots before
sophomore Riley Battle
ended the run with 6-1/2
minutes left in
regulation.
Although SU got the
deficit back to one
point on several
occasions, Schreiner
would not lead again in
the game.
Flannery had a team-high
16 points, Battle had 15
and Jones-Conyers 14.
Junior Ralph Turner had
an off-night shooting
the ball, but still
contributed 5 assists
and six rebounds.
Freshman Mike Uwaga also
had six rebounds to go
with 8 points.
Ozarks' Tony Daniels had
19 points and 12
rebounds to lead both
