Mountaineers Falter in Second Half at Ozarks

Schreiner built up an 11 point lead at halftime but Ozarks rallied in the second half to edge the Mountaineers, 66-63, in Clarksville, AR.

SU (1-6 in ASC) got busy early and built an 11-3 lead five minutes into the game.  Led by sophomore David Flannery and junior Chris Jones-Conyers, the lead grew to 10 points, 17-7, before Ozarks answered back.  Still the Mountaineers continued to shoot well and built the lead back to as high as 13 (40-27) moments before halftime.  Ozarks got the final score of the half to make the halftime lead 40-29 in favor of the visitors.  Schreiner outshot Ozarks (4-3 in ASC) 57%-40%.  Jones-Conyers had 13 points and Flannery 10 at the midpoint.

In the second half, SU went cold and couldn't score for the first five minutes while Ozarks scored 7 straight points.  The Mountaineers built the lead back to 8 with less than 10 minutes left, but Ozarks went on a 9-0 run sparked mainly by free throw shots before sophomore Riley Battle ended the run with 6-1/2 minutes left in regulation.  Although SU got the deficit back to one point on several occasions, Schreiner would not lead again in the game.

Flannery had a team-high 16 points, Battle had 15 and Jones-Conyers 14.  Junior Ralph Turner had an off-night shooting the ball, but still contributed 5 assists and six rebounds.  Freshman Mike Uwaga also had six rebounds to go with 8 points.

Ozarks' Tony Daniels had 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead both teams.
