ASC East Leaders Too
Much for Mountaineers
UT-Dallas used an 18-0
run midway through the
first half to build a
big halftime lead and
added to it in the
second half in a 78-48
win over visiting
Schreiner in Dallas on
Saturday. The
Mountaineers never led
in the game.
For the first six-plus
minutes, the two teams
were very even on the
scoreboard. At
14:49 before halftime,
junior Ralph Turner's
basket made in 9-8 in
favor of UTD (7-1 in
ASC). From that
point on, though, the
Comets took control.
UT-Dallas went on a 29-4
run to build a big
halftime bulge.
The Comets led 42-16 at
the break.
In the second half, UTD
kept pouring it on.
With just over 14
minutes remaining in the
game, the lead grew to
35 (57-22).
Schreiner kept battling
but could get no closer
than a 23 point deficit
the rest of the way.
Sophomore Riley Battle
came off the bench and
was the only Mountaineer
in double digits with a
game and season high 25
points. Schreiner
had only 11 turnovers in
the game but were
out-muscled on the
boards 47-25.
UT-Dallas shot 57% from
the field for the game.
The Mountaineers (1-7 in
ASC) return to ASC West
play next weekend with a
pair of games in
Abilene. |
