Schreiner Comes Up
Short in 5-point Loss at
Concordia
Concordia-Texas built a
double-digit halftime
lead and used foul shots
down the stretch to hold
off visiting Schreiner,
84-79, in Austin
Thursday night.
Junior Ralph Turner led
three Mountaineers (2-9
in ASC) in double
figures in scoring with
23 points and added 12
rebounds.
The two teams traded the
lead and baskets for the
first seven minutes of
the game, but a 12-2 run
by the Tornadoes (5-6 in
ASC) gave the home team
its first double digit
lead, 22-11. The
lead would grow to as
high as 13 in the first
half (28-15) before
Schreiner rallied.
The Mountaineers cut the
lead to three points on
a layup by sophomore
David Flannery to make
it 28-25, but CTX built
the lead back to 12
(43-31) by halftime.
The lead grew to 18 in
the second half with
13:35 remaining.
The closest Schreiner
would get was the final
margin of five points as
Concordia hit its free
throws down the stretch
to preserve the win.
Junior Chris
Jones-Conyers scored 16
points for SU while
freshman Colton Kemp
scored 13 off the bench
and sophomore Riley
Battle pitched in with
11. Freshman Mike
Uwaga grabbed 11
rebounds for Schreiner.
Brad Walker led CTX with
a game-high 25 points.
Schreiner won the
rebounding battle,
46-37, but lost on the
turnover side 24-11.
SU has seven blocks in
the game.
Schreiner now returns
home for a run of four
straight games in
Edington Center,
beginning Saturday
afternoon when the
Mountaineers host UMHB
at 3:00 pm.
