In a game with huge
implications for the ASC
postseason tournament,
visiting Concordia edged
Schreiner, 96-91, in
Kerrville. The
Tornadoes (7-11 in ASC)
made the big plays down
the stretch to give them
the final edge on the
scoreboard.
Schreiner came out on
fire, scoring the game's
first seven points.
SU would get its biggest
lead of the night just
moments later, 9-2.
From that point on, the
game was played at a
hectic pace and
Concordia got right back
into the game. The
halftime score showed
Schreiner ahead 36-32,
but the second half was
played at a pace that
favored the visitors.
Junior Ralph Turner (15
points) and sophomore
Riley Battle (12 points)
shouldered most of the
scoring load as SU
dominated the rebounding
battle 24-14 and held
the visitors to 32%
shooting.
In the second half, it
was Concordia that
caught fire, shooting
nearly 63% from the
field and scoring twice
as many points as the
first half. The
two teams were tied with
two minutes to go,
86-all, but CTX got the
big points down the
stretch as SU's offense
went cold and the
defense wasn't able to
get stops.
Turner ended the game
with 31 points and
Battle 28.
Freshman Mike Uwaga had
9 rebounds as SU still
won that battle handily,
41-26. SU was
undone by 19 turnovers
and CTX's hot second
half shooting.
Schreiner drops a game
back of the final spot
in the ASC West with
only three games
remaining. They
next travel to Belton
Saturday to play UMHB. |
