UMHB Crushes
Schreiner as SU's
Playoff Hopes Dim
UMHB got revenge for a
loss in Kerrville last
month and greatly hurt
Schreiner's playoff
chances in the process,
with a 101-63 win in
Belton. On January
24th, SU beat UMHB
74-72, which started a
four-game winning streak
that vaulted the
Mountaineers (6-13 in
ASC) into the driver's
seat for a spot in the
ASC Tournament.
Yesterday's game was the
fourth straight loss for
SU, and put them two
games from a playoff
spot with just two games
remaining - both in
Kerrville this week.
Probably of most concern
to head coach Drew
Miller, was that this
was the second game in a
row where the defense
allowed at least 96
points. UMHB (14-5
in ASC) shredded SU
throughout this game and
it was over early.
It took only just over
five minutes for the
Crusaders to build a
double digit lead and
less than 10 minutes to
go ahead by 20 points.
By halftime, Mary
Hardin-Baylor was in
complete control with a
53-27 lead. UMHB
shot 47% from the field
and 44% from long range
and dominated SU in
rebounding.
In the second half, it
only got worse as UMHB
shot 56% from the field
and 60% from three-point
range. Junior
Ralph Turner scored 20
points to lead SU
scorers and sophomore
Riley Battle scored 12.
UMHB held a dominating
48-26 rebounding
advantage.
Freshman Trevor Conner
had eight points and six
rebounds.
The Mountaineers are in
a must-win situation
when they take the court
next Thursday at
Edington Center to host
Hardin-Simmons at 7:30
