MCC SHOWS IMPROVEMENT
IN SECOND RACE OF SEASON
For the second straight week,
freshman Anthony Johnson was the top finisher for the in
a fast paced 6k race at Southwestern University in
Georgetown. The race started out with a very fast first
mile as the lead runner posted a time of 4:34.
Johnson was not far behind with his fastest mile time of
4:54. He finished the race with an average mile
time of roughly 5:30 for a total race time of 21.34. "I
was very pleased at the way our team ran this race but
we started out the race too fast," said head coach
Rodney Holland. "We should have conserved energy in the
beginning and picked up the pace at mile 2. We still
have a lot to learn about the different courses (we
race) but in all I was very happy the way they responded
in their second race of their collegiate careers."
Freshman Alex Price also
ran his fastest mile time of 5:15 and finished with a
race time of 24:43. Sophomores Ray Martinez and Lupe
Garza ran a much better race this week than in their
inaugural race. Martinez finished with a time of
25:50 and Garza finished at 26:13.
