Three
Mountaineers Named to Academic All-ASC Team
Juniors Cody Lannom and Matt Casey, and sophomore Josh
Horn all were named to the Academic All-ASC team for the
2005-06 academic year. The fourth member of the
2005-06 team, Bobby Villcheck, is a freshman and is
therefore not eligible for the award.
Final Round
Struggles Derail SU's Strong Start
Despite
playing with only four players, the Mountaineers played
solid, gutsy golf for two days and had themselves in
decent position going into the final round of the ASC
Championship tournament in Frankston, TX.
Schreiner shot 329 the first round and 323 the second.
Unfortunately, wind and weather - and a lack of numbers
- doomed SU in that final round.
Bobby
Villcheck continued his strong late-season play.
Through the first two rounds, he stood just outside the
top-10 individually after rounds of 76 and 77 at the
7,047 yard, par 72 Pine Dunes Resort. Villcheck
had a rough final handful of holes, but still finished
in 20th place at 234.
Cody Lannom was next
for Schreiner in 43rd place overall followed by Josh
Horn in 45th and
Matt Casey was 52nd.
Villcheck's Hot
Start Leads Mountaineers
Bobby
Villcheck played the best golf by a Mountaineer this
year, particularly in the first two rounds of the
LeTourneau Spring Classic in Longview. Villcheck
posted back-to-back 73's and held down the 4th place
spot overall heading into the final 18 holes. The
last round didn't go quite as well but Villcheck still
earned a top-10 finish with his 228 total.
SU, with only
four players competing, finished in 7th place in the
event.
Mountaineers
Finish 11th at Tyler Invitational
Schreiner
finished 11th at the Tyler College Invitational at
Eagle's Bluff in Tyler, TX. The Mountaineers were
led by Bobby Villcheck who shot a two-day total of 169
which tied him for 43rd place.
SU Finishes 14th
at John Bohmann Invitational
The
SU Men's Golf team played its first match of the
fall season, and finished the 54-hole John
Bohmann Memorial Invitational in 14th place. The
Mountaineers were led by junior Cody Lannom
(Katy, TX) who shot a three-round total of 240.
Sophomore Josh Horn (Pipe Creek, TX) was
one shot back at 241. Junior Matt Casey
(Helotes, TX) had the Mountaineers' lowest round
when he shot a 74 (+3) in the second round. |
