Finishes in 30th Place at UMHB Invitational
The Schreiner Men's
Golf team got to experience what it's women's team has gone
through all season - playing short-handed. The
Mountaineers were down to only four players for the UMHB
Fall Invitational but SU never quit. Freshman
Arnie Martinez again was
Schreiner's top player, finishing in 30th place in the
nearly 110-player field. Martinez started off with a
78 in the first round despite battling rainy conditions.
That result left him in the middle of the pack with one
round to go. In round two, the rain was gone but windy
conditions replaced the precipitation. While many
players' scores went up in the second round, Martinez
improved three shots and moved past a quarter of the field.
Martinez is establishing himself as one of the top young
players in the ASC.
"It was a rough spot to be in - playing only four players,
but the guys never got down or complained," said coach Ron
Macosko. "We've been through a lot this semester -
things we never expected to go through - but I'm very proud
of the guys who are still in this program. We
got knocked down and we got right back up. We'll have
a different view in the future and these guys are going to
help us get there."
