MG Falters in Final Round;
Falls to 8th
The Schreiner Men's
Golf team struggled in the final round of the UT-Dallas
Spring Classic and fell one spot to finish 8th in the 13
team field. Sophomore Kyle Grona was SU's lone bright
spot on the final day, shooting 77. This tied him for
fifth-best score of the day. Grona finished 21st
overall in the tournament.
In the first round, the
Mountaineers stood in seventh place, shooting a 325 in windy
conditions. Grona posted SU's low score of 79.
In the second 18 holes of the day, SU improved three shots
to 322, led by freshman Matt Schoolcraft's 78. The
winds increased throughout the day, and the players endured
a one hour storm delay in the second round. Through 36
holes, Schreiner still maintained 7th place with one round
remaining.
In the final round, the winds reversed making the course
play longer, and the temperatures dropped significantly.
The Schreiner team struggled in the changed conditions and
dropped one spot in the final standings.
Freshman Jay Chapman was SU's second best finisher in 34th
place. Schoolcraft finished 38th, followed by freshman
Jacob Torres (43rd) and freshman Steven Bell (47th). |
