SU Falls Three Spots on
Final Day of UMHB Invite
Two freshmen led
Schreiner to a 10th place finish at the UMHB Invitational in
Salado. The Mountaineers came into the final round in
7th place in the team standings.
Austin Griffin was SU's top finisher with scores of 79-75,
which qualified for 20th individually. Jay Chapman,
another freshman, was one shot back after rounds of 78-77.
He finished 24th overall. Sophomore Arnie Martinez was
Schreiner's first round leader after a 75 and started
quickly in the second round with two birdies in his first
three holes, but ran into trouble on the par four 4th where
he took a 9. He finished with an 82 which was good for
35th place.
Sophomore Kyle Grona (50th place) and freshman Steven Bell
(57th) completed the Mountaineers' finishers.
Schreiner shot an opening round 311 which left them in the
middle of the 15 team field. The Mountaineers were
only able to manage a 316 on day two which allowed three
teams to move past them. Fellow-American Southwest
Conference member UT-Dallas won the tournament.
