Schreiner's Men's Golf team fell one spot in the final
round of the Concan Intercollegiate and finished sixth
overall led by Jay Chapman's seventh place finish
individually. The sophomore shot 79 the first day and
came back with a 75 in round two for a 154 total. SU
had been in a two-way tie for 5th place, only 11 shots out
of the lead, after the first round (with Hardin-Simmons),
but was passed by nationally-ranked McMurry in the second
round. HSU finished in 7th after shooting a second
round 333 to SU's 327.
Junior Kyle Grona was tied for fifth place individually
after one round of play on the 6,965 yard Club at Concan
layout, but had a tough time the second day in colder,
raining conditions. He shot an 82 to finish 15th
overall.
Freshman Jared Cornish, who was SU's top finisher in the
first tournament of the spring, was tied with Chapman at 79
in round 1. He wasn't as confident in his game throughout the
event and shot 85 in the final round to finish 24th.
Freshman Will Ramon finished in 39th place and junior Brent
Stanford was in 41st place.
Twenty-fourth ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor won the tournament
with a two-day score of 614. #12-ranked Texas Lutheran
(host school) was second at 622. #26-ranked McMurry
finished tied for third at 626 with Trinity.
Southwestern was fifth at 635 and Schreiner at 647.
HSU finished at 653, Concordia-Texas was eighth at 668 and
Texas A&M International was ninth at 711.
TLU's Andrew Long was the medalist at 147.
The Mountaineers finished just where the rankings would
suggest. They beat the teams ranked below them but
weren't successful knocking off teams ahead of them in the
rankings. The team will compete again the week after
spring break in Dallas.
