Grona, Chapman Not Enough
to Keep SU from 5th Place at SFC
KERRVILLE, TX - Schreiner could do no better than fifth
place at it's own tournament, despite solid rounds from
senior Kyle Grona and junior Jay Chapman. Grona
rebounded from a front nine 39 with a two-under 33 on the
back to shoot 72, good enough for sixth place individually.
Chapman kept up his solid fall season by rebounding with a
35 on the back side to shoot 73 and is in 7th.
Unfortunately, the rest of the Mountaineers weren't able to
be as successful as Schreiner shot a disappointing 303 on
the first day at Scott Schreiner Golf Course in Kerrville.
Freshmen Andy Bell and Kelby Ruiz shot 79 each and are in
27th place. Sophomore Jared Cornish shot an 83.
15th ranked UT-Tyler leads the tournament with a 286 total,
followed closely by Mary Hardin-Baylor which shot 288.
Concordia-Texas is in third place after a first round 291.
Hardin-Simmons is one shot ahead of SU at 302.
Aaron Massey of UMHB shot the day's low round of 67.
Schreiner medalists Jay Ray (78), Will Ramon (79) and Mark
Salazar (80) also competed in the event. The final
round is tomorrow and the Mountaineers hope to improve
significantly on their scores.
