SU in
Sixth Place after First Round of Spring Shootout
KERRVILLE, TX -- Schreiner
Men's Golf struggled with the conditions, shot its worst
round of the year and finds itself in sixth place at the
4th annual Schreiner Spring Shootout played at The Club
at Comanche Trace.
SU shot a 318, which is 16 shots off the pace of
tournament leader Trinity University. Freshman
Tommy Xu shot the best opening round for the
Mountaineers with a 77. Freshman Zach Oliver
struggled with a wrist injury and shot 79.
Sophomore Zach Reichenau was at 80 and freshman Matt
Garrett was at 82. SU's fifth player, Andy Bell,
had to be withdrawn due to illness.
Trinity shot a 302. UT-Tyler's Taylor Quiet,
playing as a medalist, holds a two stroke lead after a
first round 69.
Schreiner also had a second team in the field which is
in seventh place. Freshman Jimmy Keener leads that
group with a 79, followed by freshman Ian Davis at 80.
Freshman Cheyne Kendall is at 81, followed by junior
Kelby Ruiz (83) and sophomore Marcus Vargas (88).
There are 10 men's teams in the field.
The
second and final round is scheduled for 9:00 am tomorrow
at Comanche Trace with a shotgun start.
