MOUNTAINEERS
EARN OPENING-WEEKEND SPLIT IN DALLAS
(9/4/06)
The Schreiner Men's Soccer team started
2006 strong with a 4-0 win over Maryville (MO)
in Dallas on Saturday. The Mountaineers
got on the scoreboard early as junior Tino
Albarran hit the back of the net on an assist
from senior David Ramos five minutes into the
match. Just before halftime, senior Tyler
Strickland put Schreiner up 2-0 on an assist
from Albarran. In the second half, SU kept
pouring it on as sophomore Ryan Ross got this
first goal of the season on an assist from
junior Abe Garcia and Albarran. Freshman
Ernest Villarreal rounded out the scoring on a
penalty kick. Sophomore Nick Morrison and
junior Jeff Winton combined in goal on the
shutout.
On Sunday against
host University of Dallas, the Mountaineers
(1-1) started slowly and it proved costly.
Dallas scored two quick goals to claim a 2-0
lead that would stand up. Although
Schreiner dominated the action the rest of the
way, all SU could manage was a goal by Albarran
at the 50 minute mark which cut the lead in
half. Schreiner outshot Dallas 22-7 for
the match but it wasn't enough to avoid the 2-1
loss.
