STRICKLAND'S
GOAL IS DIFFERENCE AS SU SHUTS OUT McMURRY
The Schreiner
Men's Soccer team struggled with McMurry, but
their stout defense combined with a (senior)
Tyler Strickland goal just before halftime was
enough to post a 1-0 win over the Indians in
American Southwest Conference play. In the
win, sophomore goalkeeper Nick Morrison recorded
yet another shutout, giving him 8.5 in his brief
career and further distancing himself from
second place on the school's all-time shutout
list.
Strickland
scored his goal in the 44th minute of the first
half. Senior Travis Curd crossed a pass to
freshman Ernest Villarreal who attempted a
header. The ball may have gone in off that
header but Strickland left no doubt by finishing
the shot for the decisive goal. Both Curd
and Villarreal earned assists on the play.
In the second
half, SU's defense locked down McMurry and
delivered the victory. |
