SU Men Win on
Albarran Goal with 50 Seconds Remaining
Mountaineer junior
Tino Albarran scored on a header off a
Tyler
Strickland throw-in with 50 seconds remaining in
regulation to give Schreiner a key 1-0 win at
Mary Hardin-Baylor in ASC action. The
Mountaineers started slowly in the first half as
UMHB carried the action, but the second half
belonged to SU. Schreiner outshot UMHB
17-10 overall and 11-6 in the second half.
Despite the statistical edge, the match was
hanging in the balance with minutes remaining.
To give SU some fresh legs, Strickland, a
senior, was reinserted into the lineup.
The move paid off as his throw-in was on the
mark and Albarran finished the play and earned
the victory.
Schreiner has had trouble with UMHB in recent
years, as this is the first time that SU earned
in win in three years. It couldn't have
come at a better time as the Mountaineers were
coming off a tough 1-0 loss in double overtime
vs. Hardin-Simmons.
The Schreiner defense was at its normal stingy
best, recording the team's third shutout in '06.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Nick Morrison continues to
extend the SU career shutout record, and now has
9.5 in less than 1-1/2 seasons. |
