Two Late Goals
Shoot Down TLU, 2-1
Statistically, it
was all Schreiner for 88 minutes in their ASC
match vs. TLU, but the scoreboard read TLU - 1,
SU - 0. With two minutes remaining in the
match, everything changed as the Mountaineers
scored two goals in 90 seconds and earned a key,
emotional 2-1 victory over Texas Lutheran.
The Bulldogs managed only two shots in the first
half, but one was perfect. Alan Garza
struck a pinpoint shot into the right corner of
the goal at the 32 minute mark of the first half
to give TLU the lead. Despite being
outshot, 24-5, TLU's lead stood up until the
closing moments.
Senior
Chad Baker tied
the match on assists from
freshman Dean Ellis and senior
Tyler Strickland
with just over 2 minutes remaining. Just
when the home crowd was settling down from that
goal and preparing for overtime, freshman
Erwin
Madrid found the back of the net, unassisted,
with just over one minute left to give Schreiner
its winning edge. Junior
Jeff Winton
earned the win in goal but was rarely tested as SU's defense only allowed one other shot on goal
the entire match. With the win,
Schreiner improves to 4-1 in ASC play.
