Redemption:
SU Cruises Past ETBU, 5-0
Last year, the
weekend when Schreiner Men's Soccer traveled to ETBU and LeTourneau probably cost the
Mountaineers the regular-season title. SU
went 0-1-1 that weekend and ultimately finished
one game behind champion UT - Tyler. Twelve months
later, Schreiner hosted the two teams and earned
some redemption. Yesterday, SU defeated LeTourneau 3-1 and today the Mountaineers routed
ETBU, 5-0. With the wins, Schreiner is now
6-1 in ASC play heading into a tough stretch of
matches - primarily on the road.
Against ETBU,
Schreiner started fast and really never let the
Tigers get any momentum.
Jorge Pineda
put SU up 1-0 at the 10 minute mark on an assist
by
David Ramos.
Thirteen minutes later, Ramos again assisted,
but this goal was scored by
Tino Albarran.
The goal was his seventh of the season which
leads all SU players. Pineda again scored
to make it 3-0, this time with three minutes to
go before halftime on an assist by
Erwin Madrid.
Then
Ernest Villarreal
scored just before the halftime buzzer with an
third assist going to Ramos to make it 4-0
Schreiner and end all doubt in the match.
In the second half,
Tyler Strickland
(assist to Villarreal) picked up his third goal
of the season, which ties both Pineda and
Villarreal for second on the team in that
category.
Nick Morrison
and
Jeff Winton
combined on the shutout, stopping all six shots
they faced and were backed by a typically stingy
Mountaineer defensive effort.
The Mountaineers
outshot ETBU 26-12 but the statistical disparity
could have been worse. SU had 12 of the
match's first 13 shots. |
