SU to host ASC
Tournament after 4-2 Road Win
The
Schreiner Men's Soccer team did what it had to
do and now will get to sleep in their own beds
for the ASC Men's Soccer Tournament. To
host the ASC Tournament, the Mountaineers would
have to beat a very dangerous Mississippi
College team on its own pitch. With the
help of
Ernest Villarreal's
first collegiate hat trick, head coach Paul
Hayes' team did just that, winning 4-2.
With the win, Schreiner earns the tournament's
top seed and will host the six-team event that
starts on Friday in Kerrville.
Villarreal got the Mountaineers on the board
first when he redirected a pass from
Roberto Garcia.
SU and Villarreal doubled their lead shortly
after on a pass from
Tino Albarran.
Mississippi College cut the lead in half but
Tyler Strickland
gave Schreiner a 3-1 first half lead when he put
a pass from
David Ramos into the back of the net.
Mississippi College again cut the lead to one
goal just before halftime and the scoreboard
read Schreiner - 3, Mississippi - 2 at the
break.
In the second half, Villarreal gave the
Mountaineers some extra working margin when he
got his third goal - this one after an
outstanding run by
Ben Roell.
Schreiner goalkeeper
Nick Morrison
and his defensive stalwarts made the lead stand
up.
As ASC Tournament host, Schreiner gets a first
round bye and will play its first match on
Saturday at 11:00 am vs. winner of the
Mississippi/UT-Dallas match which will take
place on Friday at 11:00 am. A tournament
match schedule will be released shortly. |
