Albarran, Morrison Headline SU's All-ASC Selections; Hayes is COTY Again

Even though the 2006 ASC Tournament didn't turn out as the Mountaineer Men's Soccer team had hoped, Schreiner's season still caught the notice of voters as four SU players earned first team All-ASC.  Junior midfielder Tino Albarran was named Co-Offensive Player of the Year (along with David Salas of Hardin-Simmons) and sophomore goalkeeper Nick Morrison earned Defensive Player of the Year.  Those two Mountaineers were joined by senior defender Ben Roell and senior midfielder David Ramos on the first team All-ASC squad.  Sophomore defender Daniel Cortez was named to the second team, All-ASC while senior midfielder Chad Baker (third team) and freshman defender Michael Flynn (honorable mention) also earned All-ASC honors.  Head coach Paul Hayes, who just completed his fourth season at the helm of the Mountaineers, earned his second straight ASC Coach of the Year honor after guiding SU to a 12-5-1 record.  Schreiner's 12 wins overall and 10 ASC wins are the most ever for SU men's soccer and the team earned the top seed and hosted last weekend's ASC Tournament - also firsts for the Mountaineers.

Albarran was Schreiner's top offensive threat in 2006 and was among the ASC leaders in goals (10) and points (24).  Morrison anchored one of the ASC's toughest defenses and finished with a save average of .819 while recording four shutouts.  In two seasons, Morrison is already SU's all-time leader in shutouts with 11.  Roell, Cortez and Flynn were a huge part of that defensive success.  The Schreiner defense may have had it's best effort of the season in shutting down the nation's top offensive unit, #1-ranked Trinity.  Schreiner held TU scoreless into the second half before Trinity rallied to tie SU 2-2 on October 24th.

Ramos and Baker joined Albarran to form possibly the best group of midfielders in the ASC this year.  Ramos finished tied for the ASC lead in assists with 10 and assists per game at .56.  Baker added four goals in 2006, including two that were game winners.
