Morrison
Honored Again
Mississippi College forward Phillip Buffington
and Schreiner University goalkeeper Nick
Morrison – both juniors – have been selected as
men’s soccer preseason players of the year in
the American Southwest Conference after a vote
of the league’s 14 head coaches and sports
information directors, the ASC office announced
on Tuesday.
Morrison helped
the Mountaineers earn the right to host the 2006
ASC tournament by posting 5.50 saves per game
and four shutouts. He boasted a save percentage
of .819 and allowed only 1.21 goals per contest.
"Brick Wall Nick" is not new to this award; he
was the ASC 2006 Defensive Player of the year,
as well as the 2006 Preseason Defensive Player
of the Year. Morrison set the school
record for career shutouts in his sophomore
year, reaching 11 by the end of the 2006
campaign.
American Southwest
Conference men’s soccer action will begin Aug 31
with the conference championship tournament
slated for November 2-4. The Mountaineers
kick off their season on August 31 in Tyler, TX
against Southern Nazarene University. The
first men's home soccer match is slated for
Sept. 21 against conference rival UMHB. |
