SU Ties McMurry
in ASC Opener, 1-1
Schreiner and
McMurry battled to a 1-1 tie in the American
Southwest Conference opener for both schools.
The Mountaineers cracked the scoreboard first,
less than five minutes into the match.
Senior Tino Albarran, last year's ASC
Co-Offensive Player of the Year, scored his
first goal of the season on an assist by Stephen
Gonzalez. That lead would hold up through
nearly the remainder of the first half.
With only three seconds remaining until
intermission, McMurry answered with a goal from
Nathan Perschke.
Neither team could score in the second half, or
either of two overtimes. Schreiner (1-1-1,
0-0-1 in ASC dominated in shots-on-goal, 13-6,
but couldn't penatrate McMurry's (1-0-1, 0-0-1
in ASC) defense.
ASC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year pick,
junior goalkeeper Nick Morrison, stopped five
shots in the match. |
