Another
Match, Two More OT's, Another Tie for SU Men's
Soccer

Senior Jeremy Reinhard and his defensive mates
were strong in a 0-0 tie with LeTourneau
Schreiner's defense may have played its best
match of the season and stifled visiting
LeTourneau for the second half and two overtime
periods in a 0-0 tie. Despite several good
chances, SU couldn't score either.
It was the Schreiner defense and the wind that
were the stories of the match. Whichever
team had the wind at its back had a distinct
advantage. LeTourneau (5-6-1, 3-2-1 in
ASC) had the wind and controlled the action in
the first half. When the teams switched
sides after intermission, the wind and SU
defense took over. Freshman goalkeeper,
Matt Johnson, was stellar both with his saves
and with his booming direct kicks into the
Yellow Jacket end. Several punts became
good scoring chances for SU but none could be
converted.
Johnson had plenty of help from senior Jeremy
Reinhard and freshman Lee Bosserman.
Reinhard has been strong anchoring the SU
defense all year but he did not have his senior
runningmate Brad Baker alongside as Baker was
out with an injury. In stepped Bosserman
and he filled in admirably. Whenever
LeTourneau looked like they might get something
going, one or the other stuffed the attack and
got the ball back for the offense.
Freshmen Phillip Anderson and Taylor Bontz and
sophomores Derek Brosky and Stephen Gonzalez all
had three shots for the Mountaineers (0-6-2,
0-3-2 in AC) who go on the road for their next
match to Concordia-Texas. |
