Schreiner Men's Soccer scored two goals and that
was enough to gain a 2-1 win at Concordia-Texas.
In yet another closely contested, defensively
oriented match, Schreiner was able to get some
offense and a lead.
Freshman Phillip Anderson scored his first
collegiate goal (on an assist from sophomore
Stephen Gonzalez) with 12 minutes remaining in
the first half to give SU a 1-0 lead it would
maintain into halftime. Just past midway
through the second, sophomore Juan Bonilla
scored his first goal, unassisted, of the season
to make it 2-0 which was plenty of scoring for
Schreiner's (1-6-2, 1-3-2 in ASC) stingy
defense.
The Mountaineers gave up a late goal to
Concordia (3-9. 2-5 in ASC) that made the final
moments interesting but got the elusive
first win of the season under their belts. The
two goals represent a season high offensive
output.
Neither team was able to generate a lot of shots
on goal but Schreiner took advantage of the ones
it had. The Mountaineers are undefeated in
their last three matches (1-0-2) and now travel
to UT-Tyler, one of the ASC's top teams, for a
match tomorrow. Freshman Matt Johnson had
three saves and continues his impressive first
collegiate season. |
