UT-Dallas

UT-Dallas' Stephen Ambrose scored his third goal
of the match near the end of overtime to give
the visitors a 4-3 win over Schreiner. The
Mountaineers were handed their sixth one-goal
loss of the season and this one might have been
the most painful yet as the Mountaineers had a
chance to upend the Comets (8-3-2, 6-0-2 in ASC)
who were in first place and undefeated in league
play.
The match was tied going into halftime and
remained that way well into the second half as
the two defenses dominated the play. When
UTD's Jess Mitchell scored 15 minutes into the
second half, it set off a frenzy of scoring that
was unexpected. Schreiner freshman Phillip
Anderson scored his second goal of the season
four minutes later to tie the match - the assist
went to freshman Taylor Bontz. Ambrose
scored his first goal of the match with 19
minutes remaining to give UTD a brief 2-1 lead.
Anderson answered back with his second goal of
the match 11 minutes later on another assist
from Bontz to again tie the score.
Anderson recorded his first collegiate hat trick
with his third goal of the match on an assist
from sophomore Juan Bonilla. The score
came with less than four minutes remaining in
regulation and SU looking to pull off the big
win. It looked even better when there was
only one minute remaining but with 47 seconds
left Ambrose delivered the tying goal.
In overtime, it looked like the two teams would
go to a second OT period but with only 20
seconds left, Ambrose ended the game with his
third goal. Statistically, SU outplayed
the Comets, recording 19 shots and 9 shots on
goal to 13 and 6 six for the visitors.
Anderson had seven shots and four on goal for
his hat trick. Schreiner plays again
tomorrow, this time against visiting Ozarks.
