Two
Schreiner Men's Soccer players were named third
team All-ASC and two more were on the honorable
mention team in a vote by conference coaches
and SID's. Senior defender Jeremy Reinhard
and freshman goalkeeper Matt Johnson were each
named to the conference team after stellar
seasons for the Mountaineers. Freshman
Phillip Anderson, who led the team in goals, and
sophomore Juan Bonilla each earned Honorable
Mention All-ASC honors.
Reinhard, also a certain Academic All-ASC selection
when those awards are announced later this
month, was one of the leaders of a reinvigorated
SU defensive unit. The Mountaineers
improved greatly in this area in 2008 by
finishing 5th overall in the ASC, allowing only
22 goals during the 2008 campaign.
Reinhard played in every match during his four
year career. Unfortunately, his only
serious injury came in his next-to-last match
when he suffered a knee injury. All three
SU seniors (Reinhard, Nick Morrison, Brad Baker)
ceremoniously started their final match on
November 1 but none were able to play due to
injuries.
Johnson had a stellar first season in goal for
SU. He was forced to replace Morrison,
Schreiner's career and single season shutouts
leader, very early in the season when Morrison
suffered a serious knee injury. Johnson's
play was very much a factor in keeping Schreiner
in virtually every match during the fall.
He finished in the top 10 in nearly all
goalkeeping statistics as a true freshman.
Anderson was among
the ASC's best goal scorers, also as a true
freshman. His seven goals were tied for
fourth in the league as was his goals/game
average. He had two multiple-goal matches
this fall. On October 17th, he scored all
three Mountaineer goals but SU lost, 4-3, to
UT-Dallas. He scored two goals, including
the game winner, in SU's final match - a 2-1 win
over McMurry.
Bonilla played solid throughout the fall,
registering a goal and an assist, while also
providing strong leadership for the
Mountaineers. |
