Top-Seeded UMHB Ends SU's
Tournament Run
(11.07.09)
BELTON,
TX - Schreiner Men's Soccer (4th
Seed) lost a hard fought,
closely contested semi-final
match against tournament host,
and #1 Seed, Mary Hardin-Baylor,
1-0. The Mountaineers came
out with a sense of urgency and
brought the game directly to the
regular season champs. In
the first 14 minutes of the
game, SU were able to take 4
shots (2 on target), and win a
corner kick before the Crusaders
were able to take their first
shot. Unfortunately, that
first shot proved to be the game
winner. Trevor Shoppach
scored in the 20th minute on an
assist from Andrew Carrasco.
The Mountaineers continued to
work hard for the rest of the
match, never slowing down in an
attempt to level the score.
The Cru outshot the Mountaineers
15-14. Ivan Benitez led SU
with 4 shots, Phillip Anderson,
Adam Harvey, Zach Williams, and
Kenny Benson each had a shot on
goal. Goalkeeper, Matt
Johnson recorded 14 saves.
The Mountaineers return their
full roster next season, and
will prove to be a force to be
dealt with. SU
finishes with a record
of 9-7-3 (8-4-3 ASC).
Congratulations to Coach Hayes
and the rest of the Men's Soccer
Team on an inspiring season.
