MT Finishes Season Strong with Pair of Victories
Although the Mountaineers
weren't able to claim a spot in the ASC Tournament this
year, the team still finished strong with back-to-back wins
to close out the season. Schreiner posted a tough win
at McMurry, 5-4, and then pounded visiting Concordia-Austin,
8-1, in
Christian
Sasam's final match.
At McMurry, SU got behind,
2-1, after doubles play as only Sasam and partner
Trey Brannen were able to
post a win. In singles, both quickly won their matches
to put SU ahead. Christian's younger brother
Carlo Sasam won at #2
singles After a loss at #4 singles pulled McMurry within
4-3,
Riley Winterringer earned
the decisive point at #6 singles.
In the Concordia-Austin match,
Sasam quickly took matters into his own hands. He and
Brannen won convincingly at #1 doubles. Winterringer
and
Brent Coleman were
similarly impressive at #2 doubles as was the younger Sasam
and partner
Zach Browning at #3.
Christian then won his final
SU match at #1 singles (although a junior, he is
transferring to UT-Austin to complete his Engineering
degree) and was quickly followed by Carlo (#2 singles),
Brannen (#3), Coleman (#4) and Browning (#5). With the
match in hand and Winterringer injured, SU forfeited the
final match. Schreiner improved to 5-10 overall and
3-4 in
ASC West action. |
