Schreiner MT Keeps Tournament Hopes Alive with 6-3 Win
The Schreiner Men's Tennis
team came up with its best match of the year when it needed
it most, a 6-3 win over visiting Howard Payne. The two
teams are tied for the final playoff spot in the ASC West
Division. HPU (3-2 in ASC) has two matches remaining
while Schreiner (4-3 in ASC) has completed its divisional
play.
The Mountaineers got contributions from everyone, including
two wins by senior Josh Schumann and sophomore Ben Jackson.
SU won four of six singles matches and two of three doubles
matches. Seniors Riley Winterringer (#2 singles),
Schumann (#3) and Brent Coleman (#4) each won their singles
matches while Jackson won at #5 singles. Both
Winterringer and Schumann won in three sets while Coleman
and Jackson won in straight sets.
Sophomore Carlo Sasam teamed with Jackson at #2 doubles for
an 8-4 win and freshman Dan Okland teamed with Schumann to
win at #3 doubles, 9-8. Schreiner now has to wait to
see what transpires in the remaining matches to see if it
will earn a tournament spot. |
