Mississippi Ends SU's Season at ASC Championships
Mississippi College ended the
Schreiner Men's Tennis season with a 5-1 win in the first
round of the ASC Championships in Tyler. The
Mountaineers sole win came at #2 doubles where sophomores
Carlo Sasam and Ben Jackson beat MC's #2 duo, 9-7.
Mississippi College won matches at both #1 doubles and #3
doubles to take a 2-1 lead into singles action.
In the singles portion, the Choctaws took control.
Sasam lost 1-6, 1-6 at #1 singles. Seniors Riley
Winterringer (1-6, 4-6 at #2 singles) and Brent Coleman
(2-6, 1-6 at #4 singles) also were unable to win their
respective matches and that gave the team decision to MC.
The other matches were left unfinished and Mississippi
advanced to the semi-finals of the ASC Championships against
Hardin-Simmons.
The loss ends Schreiner's season at 4-4 in ASC play, but the
Mountaineers returned to post-season play after a one-year
absence. With three seniors (Winterringer, Coleman and
Josh Schumann) playing significant roles in the success of
the '08 squad, head coach Lee Jennings will have some big
holes to fill for next season. |
