Nadebaum Adds Head Coach of
Men's Tennis to Responsibilities
Schreiner University Athletics
announced that Garry Nadebaum has agreed to add head coach
for the Schreiner Men's Tennis program to his duties,
effective today. Nadebaum began last summer as the SU
Women's Tennis head coach and just completed his first
semester with that program. Prior to taking over as SU
head coach, he served as head coach of both the boys and
girls tennis programs at Our Lady of the Hills School here
in Kerrville this past year. During his tenure, he led the
boys team to the TAPPS state title. Nadebaum also is the
Director of Tennis and Swimming at Riverhill Country Club in
Kerrville and brings a wealth of experience to the job as a
teacher and former standout professional and collegiate
tennis player.
He has been highly-successful developing young players.
Included in the dozens of nationally-ranked USTA junior
players he has developed, he recently coached Kerrville’s
Jordan Rux and helped Rux rise to the #1 USTA national
ranking. Rux recently completed his freshman season on the
nationally-ranked Baylor Bears men’s tennis team that won
the Big 12 championship with Rux gaining the decisive
point. Many of Nadebaum’s players have gone on to play in
college programs - several at the D-I level.
In his playing career, Nadebaum has racked up plenty of
awards and honors. He was the Oklahoma Adult Player of the
Year both in 2003 and 2001 and climbed as high as #25 in the
ITF World Rankings and #2 in the National 35's Singles
Rankings. He has notched over 100 first place and 100
second place finishes in tournament action.
He is a graduate (Business Administration) of Oral Roberts
University where he was a standout player. He was ranked as
high as #14 in the nation in doubles and #34 in singles for
a team that also ranked in the top 15 in the nation. For
his first two years in college, Garry starred at South
Plains (Junior) College and had similar national success
before moving on to ORU.
Nadebaum
inherits a men's program that advanced to the ASC Tournament
in 2008. SU finished with a 4-3 record and a three-way
tie for the final playoff spot and won the tiebreaker.
The Mountaineers fell to ASC East Championship Mississippi
in the first round of the 2008 event. That was a
senior-laden team and only one player returns for 2009.
